DEBT DEPT is the FOURTH record by EXCEPTER.
Excepter is an electronic performance group devoted to the destruction of boundaries between the psychic friends network and reality television. DEBT DEPT is an album of protest songs played in anti-commercial style with a timeless message for today’s election-year consumer:
“VOTE NO” … or … “MAKE ONE MISTAKE, MAKE IT TWICE”
DEBT DEPT was recorded in FIVE days, in THREE intervals, over the course of NINE months. Of SEVENTEEN tracks recorded, EIGHT tracks remain, molded by FOUR successive layers of building and erasing, TWO bands in ONE.

TRACKS:
1)
Entrance
A
sequence used to inaugurate the band’s first performance with the Animal
Collective seems a natural choice to open our first LP for our new label
patrons.
2)
Shots Ring
A
meditation on last season’s school shooting proves prophetic
as elements from next season’s pop up in multiple-layered verse.
3)
Kill People
Originally
titled “Guns and Roses,” this workout brings to mind
the old NRA clause, here reduced to its essential conclusion.
4)
Any and Every
A
reprogramming of an Alternation fave becomes transformed through
Dan’s Leslie turns into an exaltation of divine archery.
5)
The Last Dance
To
start off the second side, this slow burn tour-de-force re-imagines
the divorce night between Napoleon and the Queen of the Universe.
6)
Greenhouse / Stretch
A
two-part study of the age-old battle between the knowledge of the ancients
and sensations surrounding sexual initiation.
7)
Walking Through the Night
Electric
sound erupts through darkness, sucking the street light back to the stars,
Jon’s message call for the sleeping city.
8)
Sunrise
It will come out tomorrow. Bet your bottom dollar.
The
“DEBT DEPT” sessions were produced by EXCEPTER and engineered by Mitch
Rackin at Seaside Lounge studios in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Digital editing and
mixing was performed by John Fell Ryan at 392 Jeff Street, NYC. The final
sequence was mastered by Roger Seibel at SAE Mastering, Phoenix, AZ. Thanks to
Todd and Josh.
